Regular Season Round 29: Toyama Grouses - Sendai 89ers 77-56

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Sendai 89ers (12-13) were smashed on the road by sixth ranked Toyama Grouses (11-12) 77-56 on Saturday. The game without a history. Toyama Grouses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Toyama Grouses outrebounded Sendai 89ers 48-37 including 18 on the offensive glass. The game was also dominated by American players. Power forward Devin Searcy (208-89, college: Dayton, agency: Pro One Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Haakim Johnson (201-87, college: Pikeville) contributed with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) answered with 13 points and 9 rebounds and forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Sendai 89ers. Sendai 89ers' coach Robert Pierce gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Toyama Grouses moved-up to fifth place. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the fourth position with 13 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face again higher ranked Sendai 89ers (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
