Seventeenth-ranked Novipiu CM (4-13) used its home court advantage to challenge ninth ranked Banco di Sard. (9-8) in Casale on Sunday. The visitors from Sassari managed to secure only three-point victory 78-75. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Novipiu CM won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Banco di Sard. made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Novipiu CM only scored three points from the stripe. American guard Drake Diener (196-81, college: De Paul, agency: Priority Sports) notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Bosnian-Serbian power forward Vanja Plisnic (205-80, agency: Beo Basket) supported him with 13 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Banco di Sard.'s coach Romeo Sacchetti used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 12 points and 18 rebounds by naturalized American power forward David Chiotti (205-84, college: N.Mexico, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Novipiu CM. American guard Matt Janning (196-88, college: Northeastern, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) added 23 points. Five Banco di Sard. and four Novipiu CM players scored in double figures. Banco di Sard. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Cimberio VA. Novipiu CM lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Banco di Sard. will meet at home higher ranked Bennet Cantu (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Novipiu CM will play against Vanoli-Braga (#16) in Cremona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
