Regular Season Round 14: Asteras - Aris 58-32

Very expected game in Athens where 9th ranked Aris (4-10) was rolled over by fifth ranked Asteras (9-5) 58-32. The game without a history. Asteras led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Aris to just 5 points in third quarter. Asteras held Aris to an opponent 23.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Asteras forced 19 Aris turnovers. American guard Nikitta Gartrell (175-88, college: N.Carolina St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Latvian center Zenta Melnika (197-91) contributed with 8 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Asteras' coach Panagiotis Arvanitis felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Fedra Skiadopoulou (191-90) replied with 7 points and 8 rebounds and forward Maro Tranta (175-92) added 8 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Aris. Asteras moved-up to third place, which they share with Panathinaikos and Panionios. Aris at the other side keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with PAOK. Asteras' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panathinaikos.
