There was an upset when higher ranked Bendigo Spirit (10-8) was edged by ninth ranked West Coast Waves (2-16) in Perth 64-62 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 19-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Bendigo Spirit outrebounded West Coast Waves 49-33 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international forward Rohanee Cox (182-80) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Melissa Marsh (175-85) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Four West Coast Waves players scored in double figures. Center Gabrielle Richards (191-84, college: Oregon) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and international swingman Tess Madgen (180-90) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Bendigo Spirit. Bendigo Spirit's coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. West Coast Waves maintains ninth position with 2-16 record. Loser Bendigo Spirit keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. West Coast Waves will have a break next round. Bendigo Spirit will play on the road against the league's second-placed Bulleen Boomers (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
