Regular Season Round 24: Denso Iris - Niigata 80-68

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Denso Iris (16-8) beat 7th ranked Airlines R. (4-20) in Kariya 80-68 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Denso Iris. Airlines R. managed to win fourth quarter 30-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Airlines R. to just 7 points in second quarter. Denso Iris dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Airlines R.'s 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by international center Maki Takada (183-89) who scored that evening 21 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Akiko Obata (165-81) supported her with 14 points and 7 assists. Denso Iris' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds by international forward Reika Takahashi (177-88) did not help to save the game for Airlines R.. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) added 21 points and 5 rebounds. Denso Iris have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 16-8 record having five points less than leader JX Sunflowers. Airlines R. lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 20 games lost. Denso Iris will meet at home bottom-ranked Aishin Wings (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Airlines R. will play against the league's second-placed Toyota A. in Nagoya and hope to secure a win.
