Regular Season Round 30: Toyama Grouses - Sendai 89ers 80-75

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Sendai 89ers (12-14) were defeated on the road by fifth ranked Toyama Grouses (12-12) 80-75 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 46-40 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Masashi Joho (183-82) scored 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Haakim Johnson (201-87, college: Pikeville) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) scored 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses moved-up to fourth place. Sendai 89ers lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 14 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face Takamatsu FA (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Sendai 89ers will play against Chiba Jets (#8).
