Second Stage Round 17: GECR Indalo - Penarol 82-76

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Penarol (13-4) against fourteenth ranked GECR Indalo (6-11) on Friday night. Visiting Penarol was defeated by GECR Indalo in a tough game in Comodoro R. 76-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Penarol. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Penarol won third quarter 15-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when GECR Indalo won last quarter 26-21. Penarol was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Cedric McGowan (198-85, college: Cincinnati, agency: Court Side) stepped up and scored 28 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and American-Spanish forward Devin Davis (202-74, college: Miami, OH) chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Marcos Mata (202-86) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Martin Leiva (208-80) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GECR Indalo moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Club 9. Defending champion Penarol keeps the second position with four games lost. GECR Indalo will play against higher ranked Wuber-Est.Bahia (#9) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Penarol will play on the road against Boca Juniors (#8) in Buenos Aires and hopes to get back on the winning track.
