Rather predictable result in Sydney, NS where third ranked Capers (8-5) defeated 7th ranked Varsity Reds (3-9) 83-73 on Friday. Capers dominated on the defensive end, holding Varsity Reds to just 1 points in second quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Capers forced 20 Varsity Reds turnovers and outrebounded them 50-28 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Jimmy Dorsey (188) scored 27 points and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Julien Smith (178) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Alex Desroches (193) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and Matthew Daley scored 12 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Capers maintains third position with 8-5 record having just three points less than leader Lakehead. Varsity Reds lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with nine games lost. Capers will face again Varsity Reds (#7) in Fredericton, NB in the next round.
