No shocking result in a game in Wladyslawowo where second ranked Astoria Bydg. (11-4) smashed 13th ranked SMS PZKosz (3-13) 79-53 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Astoria Bydg.. SMS PZKosz was better in fourth quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Astoria Bydg. forced 19 SMS PZKosz turnovers. Strangely SMS PZKosz outrebounded Astoria Bydg. 45-24 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Astoria Bydg. made 16 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Adam Szopinski (190-89) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists. Power forward Sebastian Laydych (203-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Five Astoria Bydg. players scored in double figures. Forward Mikolaj Witlinski (201-95) produced 13 points and 9 rebounds and forward Filip Struski (199-94) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Astoria Bydg. maintains second place in Group A with 11-4 record having six points less than leader Open Florentyna. SMS PZKosz lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. Astoria Bydg. will face Wilki Morskie (#9) in Szczecin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SMS PZKosz will play on the road against Korsarz Gdansk (#8).
