Very expected game when 13th ranked Universidad de Valladolid (2-11) was crushed at home by eighth ranked Universitario de Ferrol (7-6) 70-50 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Universitario de Ferrol. Universidad de Valladolid was better in second period 21-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Universitario de Ferrol dominated on the defensive end, holding Universidad de Valladolid to just 4 points in first quarter. Universitario de Ferrol forced 20 Universidad de Valladolid turnovers. American guard Liz Repella (180-88, college: W.Virginia) stepped up and scored 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners and Finnish swingman Heta Korpivaara (187-84, college: Seton Hall) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. Center Maria Parro (182-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Cristina Salinas (162-93) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Universitario de Ferrol moved-up to sixth place in Group A, which they share with ADBA and Cod.Carmelitas. Universidad de Valladolid lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Universitario de Ferrol will face ADBA (#6) in Aviles in the next round. Universidad de Valladolid will play on the road against the league's leader Socinsa Bembibre (#1).
