Regular Season Round 23: Laurier - Western 89-73

Everything went according to plan in Waterloo, ON where second ranked Golden Hawks (14-2) won against 7th ranked Mustangs (5-11) 89-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Golden Hawks. Mustangs was better in fourth quarter 27-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Golden Hawks forced 20 Mustangs turnovers and outrebounded them 46-28 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Maxwell Allin (193) who scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Center Patrick Donnelly (203) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Five Golden Hawks players scored in double figures. Guard Ryan Barbeau (178) produced 28 points and 5 assists and forward Peter Scholtes (196) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Golden Hawks have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Lakehead. Loser Mustangs keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. Golden Hawks will face Lancers (#3) in Windsor, ON in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mustangs will play on the road against Gryphons (#6) in Guelph, ON and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
