Regular Season Round 29: Handlova - Nitra 91-87

There was a change at the Extraliga leadership position after last games. Round 29 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Nitra (17-8). They were defeated by fourth ranked Handlova (15-11) 91-87 on Saturday night. Nitra was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 27-22 charge of Handlova, which allowed them to win the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Handlova looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Nitra's players. American swingman Anthony Jones (194-84, college: Indiana Tech) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Sean Hampton (195-75, college: Alders.-Broad.) chipped in 27 points and 7 rebounds. Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (185-86, college: Kansas St., agency: KMG Sports Management) responded with 30 points and the former international guard Robert Nuber (187-83) scored 15 points. Four Nitra players scored in double figures. Handlova maintains fourth place with 15-11 record. Nitra lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the second position with eight games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Prievidza. Nitra will play next round against Levice trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Handlova will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Vahostav-Zilina on the road.
