Regular Season Round 31: Sendai 89ers - Chiba Jets 83-77

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Sendai 89ers (13-14) beat at home 8th ranked Chiba Jets (10-15) 83-77 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-77. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. Fitzgerald is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Maurice Hargrow (193-83, college: Minnesota) responded with 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and guard Jamel Staten (198-83, college: Minnesota St.) scored 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sendai 89ers moved-up to fourth place. Chiba Jets lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. Sendai 89ers will face again Chiba Jets (#8) at home in the next round.
