Regular Season Round 15: Townsville F. - Adelaide 61-64

The most exciting game of round 15 in the WNBL took place in Townsville. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Townsville Fire (12-8) to first ranked Adelaide Lightning (16-3) 64-61 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Townsville Fire. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-11. But Townsville Fire won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for international center Abby Bishop (189-88) who led her team to a victory scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Jennifer Screen (180-82) helped adding 9 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was New Zealand guard Micaela Cocks (173-86, college: Oregon) with 18 points and American forward Shanavia Dowdell (188-87, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: LBM Management) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Adelaide Lightning have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-3 record. Townsville Fire at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Adelaide Lightning are looking forward to face Bendigo Spirit (#4) on the road in the next round. Townsville Fire will play against the league's second-placed Bulleen Boomers in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
