Regular Season Round 6: Poty/Acucar - Blumenau 69-65

There was no surprise in Caranduva where 7th ranked Blumenau (3-7) was defeated by second ranked Poty/Acucar (7-3) 69-65 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Blumenau trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 18 after three quarters before a 24-10 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 65-69 at the end of the game. Poty/Acucar dominated on the defensive end, holding Blumenau to just 5 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Blumenau 43-29 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Palmira Marcal (176-84) who scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. International center Gilmara Justino (191-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 20 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Mariana Camargo (180-85, college: ORU) who recorded 20 points and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and center Flavia da Rosa (190-81) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Blumenau players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Poty/Acucar went down to third position due to points difference. Loser Blumenau dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. Poty/Acucar will face Basquete Clube (#8) in Aracatuba in the next round where they are favorite. Blumenau will play at home against Ourinhos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
