Rather predictable result in Sydney where third ranked Cape Breton (9-5) smashed 6th ranked UNB (4-9) 100-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cape Breton. UNB was better in fourth quarter 29-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding UNB to just 4 points in third quarter. Cape Breton made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game, while UNB only scored three points from the stripe. Cape Breton forced 22 UNB turnovers and outrebounded them 48-24 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Cape Breton especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. American guard Cassie Cooke (175-91, college: Mt.St.Marys) stepped up and scored 32 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and forward Stephanie Toxopeus (191) chipped in 19 points and 14 rebounds. Four Cape Breton players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Claire Colborne (183) with 17 points and 5 rebounds and guard Jordanne Holstein (175) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Cape Breton. They maintain third place with 9-5 record behind leader Windsor. Loser UNB keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
