Very important is a road loss of third ranked Alberta (11-5) against fifth ranked Calgary (11-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Alberta was defeated by Calgary in a tough game in Exshaw 67-74. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Alberta won third quarter 26-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Calgary forced 19 Alberta turnovers. It was a good game for forward Jessica Franz (185) who led her team to a victory with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Jenna Kaye (168) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Calgary players scored in double figures. Forward Saskia Van Ginhoven (185) answered with 17 points and 9 rebounds and guard Sally Hillier (168) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Alberta. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Calgary. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Alberta and Laurier. Calgary's next round opponent will be Manitoba (#12) in Winnipeg and are hoping to win another game.
