Second Stage Round 18: Boca Jrs - Penarol 86-91
Date: January 29, 2012
The game in Buenos Aires was also quite interesting. Second ranked Penarol (14-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Boca Juniors (8-10). Penarol managed to secure a 5-point victory 91-86 on Sunday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Penarol shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. International forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) notched 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Facundo Campazzo (180-91) supported him with 18 points and 4 assists. Even 24 points by American guard Larry O'Bannon (194-83, college: Louisville, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Boca Juniors. His fellow American import power forward Derrick Alston (208-72, college: Duquesne, agency: Priority Sports) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains second position with 14-4 record behind leader Obras. Loser Boca Juniors keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. They share the position with La Union and Quimsa. Penarol will meet at home bottom-ranked Olimpico de La Banda (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Boca Juniors will play against Club 9 (#13) in Rio Tercero and hope to secure a win.
