Regular Season Round 17: Blaze - Taipans 76-49
Date: January 29, 2012
The game in Broadbeach supposed to be also quite interesting. 4th placed Cairns Taipans (10-9) played at the court of sixth ranked Gold Coast Blaze (9-8). Gold Coast Blaze smashed Cairns Taipans 76-49 on Sunday. The game without a history. Gold Coast Blaze led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Gold Coast Blaze forced 21 Cairns Taipans turnovers and outrebounded them 42-27 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Mark Worthington (202-83, college: Metro St.) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Dominican guard Adris Deleon (180-84, college: E.Washington) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Four Gold Coast Blaze players scored in double figures. Center Ian Crosswhite (210-82, college: Oregon) produced 6 points and 9 rebounds and the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (205-83, college: ODU) added 12 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gold Coast Blaze. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the fourth position with nine games lost. Gold Coast Blaze will meet at home bottom-ranked Wollongong Hawks (#9) in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play against Townsville Crocodiles (#3) in Wulguru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
