Eleventh-ranked Maccabi Haifa (3-11) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked Ironi Ashkelon (8-6) on Sunday. The visitors from Ashkelon managed to secure only one-point victory 81-80. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Ironi Ashkelon made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American power forward Marco Killingsworth (202-82, college: Indiana, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Raviv Limonad (192-84) helped adding 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Carlos Powell (199-83, college: S.Carolina) with 21 points and the other American import forward Tyler Wilkerson (202-88, college: Marshall) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Mickey Gorke tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Ironi Ashkelon maintains fifth place with 8-6 record, which they share with Hapoel J-M. Maccabi Haifa lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. They share it with Bnei Hasharon. Ironi Ashkelon will meet at home higher ranked Hapoel Holon (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maccabi Haifa will play against Elitzur Netanya (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
