The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Montepaschi Siena (13-5) on the court of eighth ranked Umana Venezia on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by Umana Venezia 63-60. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Montepaschi Siena. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Montepaschi Siena won third quarter 17-6. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Umana Venezia won last quarter 13-11. It was a great evening for Polish center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Tommaso Fantoni (204-85, agency: Players Group) helped adding 11 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side Australian center David Andersen (212-80) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and American-FYR Macedonian point guard Bo McCalebb (183-85, college: New Orleans) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Umana Venezia (10-7) moved-up to sixth place. Defending champion Montepaschi Siena still keeps top position with five games lost. Umana Venezia are looking forward to face higher ranked Bennet Cantu (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Montepaschi Siena will play against Otto Caserta and is hoping to win this game.
