Rather expected game when 6th ranked Air Avellino (10-8) was crushed on the road by third ranked CS Bologna (12-6) 76-56 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by CS Bologna. Air Avellino was better in fourth quarter 24-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Air Avellino to just 7 points in first quarter. CS Bologna shot 19 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Air Avellino only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Air Avellino 49-33 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Air Avellino was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Georgian forward Viktor Sanikidze (203-86, agency: World Sport Agency) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Chris Douglas-Roberts (201-87, college: Memphis) helped adding 19 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). At the losing side American-FYR Macedonian point guard Marques Green (167-82, college: St.Bonaventure) responded with 21 points and American forward Ronald Slay (203-81, college: Tennessee, agency: David Lee services) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. CS Bologna moved-up to second place. Loser Air Avellino dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. CS Bologna will face Armani Milano (#5) at home in the next round. Air Avellino will play against Benetton Treviso.
