The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Ragusa as it allowed them to take a leadership position in South. Ragusa defeated 8th ranked Ancona at home 62-57. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ancona. Ancona was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Ancona 42-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Mozambican center Clarisse Machanguana (194-73, college: ODU, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 9 rebounds and naturalized Russian forward Svetlana Kouznetsova (185-65) who added 12 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Roberta Racca (181-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and American-British center Gillian D'Hondt (191-82, college: Pacific) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Ragusa have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Ancona at the other side keeps the eighth place with eight games lost. Ancona will play next round against Consum.it Siena trying to get back on the winning streak. Ragusa will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Napoli S.Dike at home.
