Regular Season Round 6: Al Ahli - Al Sadd 59-83
Date: January 31, 2012
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Doha: As Sadd (#2) and Al Ahli (#6). Al Ahli was smashed at home by 24 points 59-83 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. As Sadd players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American center Michael Southall (210-82, college: La-Lafayette) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and Senegalese forward Djibril Thiam (208-86, college: Wyoming) supported him with 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four As Sadd players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by American guard Cameron Crisp (192-81, college: Tenn Tech) did not help to save the game for Al Ahli. Gambian forward Mahamoud Jabbi (200-87, college: Binghamton) added 10 points and 13 rebounds. As Sadd have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-1 record behind leader Al Rayyan. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with five games lost. They share the position with Al Wakrah. As Sadd's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Rayyan.
