Regular Season Round 25: UFV - UBC 77-72

Leading Thunderbirds (12-3) recorded its third loss in Abbotsford, BC. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Cascades (11-5) 77-72. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Thunderbirds. It looked good early as Thunderbirds took an 11-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cascades took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 5 points. Cascades outrebounded Thunderbirds 41-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Thunderbirds were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Jasper Moedt (203) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and guard Joel Friesen (193) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Five Cascades players scored in double figures. At the losing side international point guard Nathan Yu (189-89) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minnesota St.) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Thunderbirds' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Cascades. They maintain fourth place with 11-5 record. Thunderbirds at the other side still keep top position with three games lost. They share it with Victoria. Cascades will again play against league's leader Thunderbirds in Vancouver, BC in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Thunderbirds will have a break next round.
