Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (15-11) won against on the road 9th ranked Shanghai Sharks (14-13) 119-108 on Friday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 64-51 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Shanxi Zhongyu made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. 29 personal fouls committed by Shanghai Sharks helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was swingman Marcus Williams (201-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) who scored 44 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) chipped in 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Forward Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) produced a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Marcus Landry (201-85, college: Wisconsin) added 23 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shanxi Zhongyu moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Zhejiang C. Loser Shanghai Sharks keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Liaoning H.. Shanxi Zhongyu is looking forward to face Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#7) in Hangzhou in the next round. Shanghai Sharks will play at home against Bayi Fubang in Ningbo and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
