Regular Season Round 23: Regina - Alberta 81-76

Not a big story in a game when 4th placed Alberta (11-6) was defeated on the road by leader Regina (16-0) 81-76 on Friday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Regina made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Alberta turnovers. The best player for the winners was Polish guard Joanna Zalesiak (174-88, college: UTEP) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Danielle Schmidt (173-89) chipped in 15 points. Five Regina players scored in double figures. Forward Andria Carlyon (191) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds and guard Sally Hillier (168) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Regina have an impressive series of sixteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-0 record. Alberta lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with six games lost. Regina will face again Alberta (#6) in Edmonton in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
