Fifth-ranked Bendigo Spirit (11-9) made lots of trouble for first ranked Adelaide Lightning (17-3) on Saturday. The visitors from Adelaide managed to secure only ten-point victory 97-87. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 15-5. Bendigo Spirit was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (193-80) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. New Zealand-Italian guard Angela Marino (166-86) chipped in 21 points and 5 assists. Five Adelaide Lightning players scored in double figures. The former international guard Kristi Harrower (166-75) produced 28 points and 8 assists and international swingman Tess Madgen (180-90) added 18 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Bendigo Spirit's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Adelaide Lightning maintains first position with 17-3 record. Bendigo Spirit at the other side keeps the fifth place with nine games lost. Adelaide Lightning will face league's second-placed Bulleen Boomers in Melbourne in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bendigo Spirit will play at home against Sydney Uni Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
