Regular Season Round 26: UFV - UBC 94-83

There was a change at the CIS leadership position after last games. Round 26 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Thunderbirds (12-4). They were defeated by third ranked Cascades (12-5) 94-83 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Cascades. Thunderbirds managed to win fourth quarter 33-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 31-of-39 free shots (79.5 percent) during the game. Cascades outrebounded Thunderbirds 35-21 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Thunderbirds helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Samuel Freeman (191) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Joel Friesen (193) chipped in 23 points during the contest. Four Cascades players scored in double figures. International point guard Nathan Yu (189-89) responded with 27 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and swingman Kamar Burke (196-86) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cascades have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-5 record behind leader Lakehead. Thunderbirds at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Lakehead. Thunderbirds will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Cascades will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Spartans in Langley, BC.
