Regular Season Round 18: Astoria Bydg. - Wilki Morskie 81-75

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Wilki Morskie (6-11) lost to second ranked Astoria Bydg. (12-4) in Bydgoszcz 75-81 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 33-21. But Wilki Morskie won third quarter 27-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Astoria Bydg. had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Astoria Bydg. made 8 blocks. It was a good game for guard Pawel Lewandowski (186-83) who led his team to a victory with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Guard Adam Szopinski (190-89) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Astoria Bydg. players scored in double figures. Power forward Igor Trela (206-89) replied with 25 points and 8 rebounds and forward Radoslaw Bojko (196-91) added 11 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals in the effort for Wilki Morskie. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Astoria Bydg. maintains second position in Group A with 12-4 record having six points less than leader Open Florentyna. Wilki Morskie lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth place with 11 games lost. Astoria Bydg. will face league's leader Open Florentyna in Pleszew in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Wilki Morskie will play at home against Korsarz Gdansk (#7).
