Regular Season Round 26: UBC Okanagan - Victoria 39-68
Date: February 4, 2012
Very expected game in Kelowna, BC where 6th ranked Heat (2-14) was crushed by second ranked Vikies (13-3) 68-39 on Saturday. The game without a history. Vikies led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Heat to just 4 points in first quarter. Vikies held Heat to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 40.3 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Heat 48-28 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Michael Acheampong scored 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Ryan Mackinnon (193-89) chipped in 19 points during the contest. Simon Pelland responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Yassine Ghomari scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Vikies have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Heat lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 14 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
