Rather expected game in Kanagawa where 8th ranked Toshiba Thunders (3-25) were rolled over by fifth ranked Tochigi Brex (13-15) 80-61 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Tochigi Brex. Toshiba Thunders was better in second period 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 39-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Ivan McFarlin (203-82, college: Oklahoma St.) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85) chipped in 25 points. American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and the former international swingman Shohei Kikuchi (190-85) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tochigi Brex maintains fifth position with 13-15 record. Loser Toshiba Thunders stay dead last with 25 lost games. Tochigi Brex will face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in Nagoya in the next round. Toshiba Thunders will play on the road against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya.
