There was no surprise in Mahon where 8th ranked Girona FC (12-10) was defeated by second ranked Menorca Basquet (15-7) 71-57 on Saturday. The game without a history. Menorca Basquet led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great shooting night for Menorca Basquet especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Swingman David Navarro (192-83) fired 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Urko Otegui (203-81) chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds. Menorca Basquet's coach Josep Berrocal used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Latvian power forward Rolands Freimanis (207-88, agency: Players Group) produced 22 points and guard Marc Fernandez (199-87) added 7 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Menorca Basquet have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-7 record having just two points less than leader Canarias, which they share with La Palma. Loser Girona FC keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. Menorca Basquet will face Caceres 2016 (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Girona FC will play against the league's leader Canarias (#1) in Tenerife.
