Very important is a home loss of third ranked Niigata Albirex (16-13) against sixth ranked Sendai 89ers (14-15) on Saturday night. Host Niigata Albirex was defeated by Sendai 89ers in a tough game in Niigata 73-80. The guests were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 31-25 Niigata Albirex's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 80-73 at the end of the game. Strangely Niigata Albirex outrebounded Sendai 89ers 51-35 including a 25-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Sendai 89ers especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. They brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. Niigata Albirex was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. Fitzgerald is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) answered with 25 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) added 10 points and 19 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex's coach Matt Garrison rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Sendai 89ers maintains sixth place with 14-15 record. Niigata Albirex lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third position with 13 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata Albirex will play again at home against Sendai 89ers and hopes to get back on the winning track.
