Regular Season Round 16: West Coast - AIS 63-78

Date: February 4, 2012
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Perth where 9th ranked West Coast Waves (2-17) were defeated by bottom-ranked AIS (2-18) 78-63 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 78-63. AIS dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to West Coast Waves' 38. Forward Sara Blicavs (188-93) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Olivia Thompson (185-93) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Rohanee Cox (182-80) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Melissa Marsh (175-85) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. AIS maintains tenth position with 2-18 record. Loser West Coast Waves keep the ninth place with 17 games lost. AIS will face higher ranked Logan Thunder (#7) in Loganholme in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
