Regular Season Round 27: Niigata - JX Sunflowers 49-70

Leader JX Sunflowers delivered the twentieth third victory. This time they crushed 7th ranked Airlines R. (4-23) 70-49 in Tokyo. The game was mostly controlled by JX Sunflowers. Airlines R. was better in third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Airlines R. to just 7 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Airlines R. 55-37 including a 44-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international power forward Yuka Mamiya (184-90) who led her team to a victory with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Masaru Honda (175-89) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. JX Sunflowers' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International forward Reika Takahashi (177-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Nozomi Hoshino (164-87) added 9 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Airlines R.Defending champion maintains first place with 23-4 record. Airlines R. lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 23 games lost. JX Sunflowers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Airlines R. will play again on the road against the league's leader JX Sunflowers (#1) in Kashiwa and hopes to get back on the winning track.
