Regular Season Round 24: TWU - TRU 58-76

There was a minor upset when 3rd ranked Trinity Western (9-8) lost to fifth ranked Thompson Rivers (7-9) in Langley, BC 58-76 on Saturday. Thompson Rivers outrebounded Trinity Western 37-25 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Thompson Rivers made 7 blocks. It was a good game for guard Jen Ju (170) who led her team to a victory with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Center Diane Schuetze (191) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Thompson Rivers players scored in double figures. Forward Holly Strom (180) replied with 18 points and center Tiffany Olsen (188-88) added 14 points in the effort for Trinity Western. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Thompson Rivers maintains fifth position with 7-9 record. Loser Trinity Western keeps the third place with eight games lost. Thompson Rivers will have a break next round. Trinity Western will play at home against the league's second-placed UFV in Abbotsford and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
