Regular Season Round 24: Regina - Alberta 84-70

Everything went according to plan when top-ranked Regina (17-0) defeated at home 4th ranked Alberta (11-7) 84-70 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 29-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Regina made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 26 Alberta turnovers. It was a good game for American guard Michelle Clarke (173-88, college: Purdue) who led her team to a victory with 23 points. Forward Danielle Schmidt (173-89) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Regina's coach Dave Taylor used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Saskia Van Ginhoven (185) replied with 18 points and 6 rebounds and guard Katie Arbuthnot (178-90) added 17 points in the effort for Alberta. Regina have an impressive 17-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-0 record. Alberta lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Regina will face Lethbridge (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Alberta will play against Brandon.
