Regular Season Round 14: Toyota Alvark - Aishin SH 74-80

Another exciting game was played in Fuchu between second ranked Aishin Sea Horses and top-ranked Toyota Alvark where Aishin Sea Horses (21-7) beat Toyota Alvark (20-8) on the road 80-74. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Toyota Alvark won fourth quarter 18-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Aishin Sea Horses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. The former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Shinsuke Kashiwagi (183-81) contributed with 10 points and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) replied with 24 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Yusuke Okada (185-84) added 14 points in the effort for Toyota Alvark. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Toyota Alvark at the other side dropped to the second place with eight games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will play against bottom-ranked Toshiba Thunders (#8) in Kanagawa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toyota Alvark will play on the road against Panasonic Trians (#4) in Osaka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
