Seventeenth-ranked CB Granada (6-16) made lots of trouble for eleventh ranked Baloncesto Leon (11-11) on Sunday. The visitors from Leon managed to secure only two-point victory 76-74. However their fans expected much easier game. CB Granada was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. American-Italian power forward Cristopher Mortellaro (206-82, college: Drury) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and center Jose Fernandez (202-75) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Five Baloncesto Leon players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international center Jesus Fernandez (204-75) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Manuel Rodriguez (192-91) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Baloncesto Leon have a solid three-game winning streak. Baloncesto Leon moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Palencia. Loser CB Granada keeps the seventeenth position with 16 games lost. Baloncesto Leon will meet at home higher ranked Ford Burgos (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. CB Granada will play against Melilla Baloncesto (#5) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the ACB just one year after relegation.
