Second Stage Round 20: Quimsa - La Union 79-84

Date: February 5, 2012
Everything could happen in Santiado Estero at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked La Union and 9th ranked Quimsa had identical 9-10 record. But Quimsa was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Formosa 84-79 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 30-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Quimsa was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Gregory Lewis (198-78, college: Winthrop, agency: Dream Team Management) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Guard Ariel Pau (186-84) chipped in 19 points. The former international forward Diego Lo Grippo (198-78) produced 22 points and American power forward James Williams (204-79, college: Brown Mackie, agency: Dream Team Management) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Quimsa players scored in double figures. La Union have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Regatas C. Loser Quimsa keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. La Union will face league's second-placed Penarol in Mar del Plata in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Quimsa will play on the road against Quilmes MP (#14) in Mar del Plata.
