Top ranked Beer Yaakov (14-3) recorded its third loss at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Hod Hasharon (9-8) 114-102. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Beer Yaakov. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 114-102. Hod Hasharon looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Beer Yaakov helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was naturalized Latvian swingman Gary Gandel (203-80) who had a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Anthony Johnson (203-88, college: Fairfield) chipped in a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Hod Hasharon's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Nate Miller (193-87, college: Bowling Green) produced 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import forward Jermaine Hall (196-80, college: Wagner) added 29 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Hod Hasharon and four Beer Yaakov players scored in double figures. Hod Hasharon moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Kiryat Tivon. Beer Yaakov at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Hapoel T-A. Hod Hasharon is looking forward to face higher ranked Hapoel Afula (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Beer Yaakov will play against Elitzur Ramla and is hoping to win this game.
