There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Jilin Tigers (12-17) beat higher ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (16-12) in Taiyuan 128-123 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Shanxi Zhongyu won third quarter 36-33. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Jilin Tigers made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Shanxi Zhongyu turnovers. Strangely Shanxi Zhongyu outrebounded Jilin Tigers 48-35 including 21 on the offensive glass. Shanxi Zhongyu was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Jordanian guard Osama Daghles (198-79, college: Midwestern St.) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 8 assists. American power forward Jameel Watkins (211-77, college: Georgetown) contributed with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American swingman Marcus Williams (201-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) answered with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (made all of his seventeen free throws !!!) and the other American import forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) added 33 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds in the effort for Shanxi Zhongyu. Four Jilin Tigers and five Shanxi Zhongyu players scored in double figures. Shanxi Zhongyu's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Jilin Tigers maintains thirteenth place with 12-17 record. Loser Shanxi Zhongyu keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Jilin Tigers will face Bayi Fubang (#15) in Ningbo in the next round. Shanxi Zhongyu will play at home against Liaoning Hunters (#11) in Yingkou.
