Regular Season Round 17: AIS - Canberra C. 77-90

Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Canberra Capitals (9-12) won against bottom-ranked AIS (2-20) in Belconnen 90-77 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Canberra Capitals. AIS managed to win third quarter 24-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Canberra Capitals made 8 blocks. Forward Brigitte Ardossi (188-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Josep and Nicolas) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Nicole Hunt (167-88) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists. Five Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. Center Carley Mijovic (197-94) came up with 17 points and 7 rebounds and forward Sara Blicavs (188-93) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for AIS in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Canberra Capitals maintains eighth place with 9-12 record. Loser AIS stay dead last with 20 lost games. Canberra Capitals will meet higher ranked Townsville Fire (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AIS will have a break next round.
