Regular Season Round 19: Taipans - Wildcats 76-67

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Perth Wildcats (14-7) against fifth ranked Cairns Taipans (12-9) on Friday night. Visiting Perth Wildcats were defeated by Cairns Taipans in a tough game in Cairns 67-76. It looked good early as Perth Wildcats took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cairns Taipans had a 19-14 second period charge getting the lead and Perth Wildcats were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-76. Cairns Taipans made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Perth Wildcats were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, agency: Pro One Sports) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 4 assists. Center Ian Crosswhite (210-82, college: Oregon) contributed with 8 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international power forward Matthew Knight (204-85, college: Loyola Mary) answered with 13 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Kevin Lisch (188-86, college: St.Louis, agency: Warren Sports International) added 16 points in the effort for Perth Wildcats. Four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Perth Wildcats' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cairns Taipans moved-up to third place. Defending champion Perth Wildcats keep the second position with seven games lost. Cairns Taipans will play against Melbourne Tigers (#6) at home in the next round. Perth Wildcats will play against Kings (#7) in Sydney and hope to get back on the winning track.
