Regular Season Round 28: UBC - Victoria 68-52

CIS round 28 caused change at the leadership position. Fourth defeat of league's leader Vikies (13-4) against third ranked Thunderbirds (13-4) 68-52 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Vikies. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Vikies managed to win second period 12-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thunderbirds dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Vikies' 24. Thunderbirds forced 23 Vikies turnovers. Strangely Vikies outrebounded Thunderbirds 44-32 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Kamar Burke (196-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds. International point guard Nathan Yu (189-89) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Guard Ryan Mackinnon (193-89) replied with 13 points and 8 rebounds and guard Zac Andrus (180) added 10 points in the effort for Vikies. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Thunderbirds keep a position of league leader, which they share with Victoria. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
