Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Golden Gaels (2-17) were outscored by second ranked Gee-Gees (12-7) in Kingston, ON 93-61 on Friday. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-61. Gee-Gees dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Golden Gaels' 28. They outrebounded Golden Gaels 39-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for guard Johnny Berhanemeskel (185) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Michael L'Africain contributed with 17 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Gee-Gees players scored in double figures. Mackenzie Simpson replied with 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard James Asefa (193) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Golden Gaels. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gee-Gees maintains second position with 12-7 record having just -4 points less than leader Saskatchewan, which they share with Windsor. Loser Golden Gaels keep the seventh place with 17 games lost. Gee-Gees will face RMC (#8) in Kingston, ON in the next round where they are favorite. Golden Gaels will play at home against the league's leader Ravens in Ottawa, ON.
