Sixth-ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (16-13) gave a tough game to first ranked Guandong Tigers (26-4) in Urumqi on Friday. The visitors from Dongguan managed to secure only four-point victory 110-106. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Xinjiang Flying Tige. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 31-28 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 12-8. Guandong Tigers made 35-of-36 free shots (97.2 percent) during the game, while Xinjiang Flying Tige only scored eighteen points from the stripe. Guandong Tigers had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Xinjiang Flying Tige was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Aaron Brooks (183-85, college: Oregon) who helped to win the game recording 32 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and forward James Singleton (203-81, college: Murray St.) who added 21 points and 17 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Swingman Tim Pickett (193-81, college: Florida St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!), 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals (was perfect 16-for-16 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Xinjiang Flying Tige's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Guandong Tigers have an impressive 13-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-4 record. Xinjiang Flying Tige at the other side dropped to the eighth place with 13 games lost. Guandong Tigers will face Shanxi Zhongyu (#4) in Taiyuan in the next round. Xinjiang Flying Tige will play at home against DongGuan Leopards (#3).
