Regular Season Round 35: Akita NH - Sendai 89ers 67-81

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Akita Happinets (18-13) against sixth ranked Sendai 89ers (16-15) on Saturday night. Host Akita Happinets were defeated by Sendai 89ers in Akita 81-67. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Akita Happinets was better in second period 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sendai 89ers had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) helped adding 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Fitzgerald is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American-Kittitian forward Kyle Swanston (201-86, college: JMU) responded with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Mychal Kearse (194-83, college: Mt.St.Mary's) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Sendai 89ers. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Niigata Albirex and Yokohama BC. Akita Happinets at the other side keep the second position with 13 games lost. They share it with Shiga L-Stars. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Akita Happinets will play again at home against Sendai 89ers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
