Leading Pais Vasco (14-4) recorded its fourth loss in Galdakao on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by tenth ranked Orion-GDKO (7-10) 80-77. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pais Vasco. Pais Vasco was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 29-21 charge of Orion-GDKO, which allowed them to win the game. American swingman Katie Gearlds (186-84, college: Purdue) fired 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Greek forward Vicky Volonaki (179-80) chipped in 20 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) produced 22 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and forward Iulene Olaberria (178-85) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Pais Vasco players scored in double figures. Orion-GDKO moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with Gernika. Loser Pais Vasco still keeps top position with four games lost. They share it with Conquero and Real Canoe. Orion-GDKO will meet at home ASEFA Estudiantes (#11) in the next round. Pais Vasco will play against Segle XXI (#14) in Barcelona and hope to secure a win.
